Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about the webinar series

The right approach depends on your business objectives, not just your current system state. Start by looking at the business objectives and conduct an early data analysis. It’s important to understand what should be retained, transformed, or retired. Select the approach that balances speed, cost, and transformation value, rather than defaulting to the least disruptive option.

Data ownership must be clearly assigned at a business level, not left fragmented across IT and functional teams. Establish governance frameworks with defined roles, responsibilities, and decision rights for both active and legacy data.

AI initiatives rely on clean, structured, and accessible data, yet many organisations underestimate the effort required to achieve this. Conduct a data quality and governance assessment before launching AI use cases and prioritise high-impact scenarios where reliable data already exists. AI based on data, therefore retaining legacy data is essential to fuel AI predictions in the future. Treat AI as an iterative journey supported by continuous data improvement, not a one-off project.

RISE with SAP typically covers only around 60% of an organization's SAP ecosystem. These gaps include application monitoring, Basis operations, security, responsiveness, and support for non-SAP or peripheral systems. Seek support to ensure these gaps are well covered.

Many organisations carry unnecessary licence and infrastructure costs due to unused users and excessive data volumes. Since S/4HANA costs are closely tied to data footprint and usage metrics, inefficiencies today directly inflate future spend. A combined approach to licence optimisation and data volume reduction is critical to building a sustainable business case. Be certain to negotiate more effectively with SAP, and ensure long-term control over licensing and data management costs.

Applications such as ELSA provide a compliant and secure access legacy data, through a clean and user-friendly displays. Access to historical data must be preserved for audit, compliance, and operational needs, even after legacy systems are shut down. This requires a structured approach to data extraction, storage, and user-friendly access outside the legacy environment.
